The following documents are required to perform a legal Civil Wedding
in Kalymnos or elsewhere in Greece:
The
documentation necessary to arrange a wedding anywhere in Greece,
can at first glances appear daunting: THIS IS NOT THE CASE.
Providing that couples follow the following simple procedures,
acquiring the correct papers is, in fact, extremely easy, and not
excessively costly.
Fifteen weeks prior to the date of your
marriage in Greece, both partners should go along to their local
Registry Office, and both apply for a:-

Certificate of No Impediment (For Weddings in the Greek islands:
This should be obtained from your local registrar and takes 3
weeks to arrange. Please note. this must be obtained no
earlier than 3 months prior to your wedding date.
Your Registrar will advise when your Certificate will
be available for collection. (Usually 14-21 days after your
application)
***The Certificate of No
Impediment, together with the birth
certificates* (full), any name change documents
or
decree absolutes,
must then be sent to the Foreign Office to be legalised. This takes
approximately 10 working days and
costs £30 per document (price correct at time of going to press), payable
online at the
Foreign Office,
Legalisation Web site. You must send your original documents, not copies. Send your documents for
both partners, to the Legalisation department via a secure
Registered Postal Service

*You are advised to obtain certified copy
Birth Certificates for both Partners, as the Greek Registrar will
need to retain these certified copies for their own Registry
records.

Once the documents have been legalised, they should be
sent to one of two independent translators
approved by the Greek Embassy, who will translate the
documents and arrange to have them stamped by the
Greek Embassy. There is a charge of £30 per document
for translation service, and £20 per document (prices correct at
time of going to press) to be stamped by the Greek Embassy.
Payment is accepted in cash, postal orders or bankers draft -
NO CHEQUES. This process takes approximately 10-14
working days. An administration fee of £20 is also
payable.
You
must send your original documents ALONG WITH YOUR PAYMENT, not

Send
your documents as a Post Office special
registered delivery, remember to
include another prepaid, self addressed, special delivery bag in
with your documents in order that the Translator can safely return your certified documents back to you.
All
copy documents should then be sent to us by email attachment here in Kalymnos, not
later than 4 weeks prior to your arranged Wedding date. In return we will send you a confirmation issued by
the Municipality verifying that all the documents are in order.
ALL ORIGINALS TO BE TAKEN WITH YOU
TOGETHER WITH COPY BIRTH CERTIFICATES. ORIGINALS OF ALL DOCUMENTS ARE KEPT IN RESORT.
